COMP TEAMS INFO SITE
At Performa Studios our students learn and grow through performance and our Platinum Performa Teams take that to the next level. This stream is for students who are ready to push themselves further, commit to something bigger than themselves, and experience everything that competitive dance has to offer.
Just like any team sport, our competition groups thrive on the dedication of every single member. The commitment of each students doesn't just impact their own growth, it shapes the entire team. That's why we take placement seriously, ensuring every student who joins is ready to give it their very best and is genuinely excited for the journey ahead.
Platinum team members learn a selection of well-choreographed competitive dances across a variety of styles, develop advanced performance and life skills, and get to showcase their hard work at the Mackay Eisteddfod and other competition opportunities throughout the year. Performing at this level fosters confidence, sportsmanshipm leadership, and an unwavering belief in what they can achieve - beyond dance, beyond limits!
PLEASE NOTE: Whilst group work doesn't begin in classes until mid to late term 2, competition preparation starts behind the scenes from the beginning if the year. So if your circumstances change, we ask that you let us know as early as possible, thank you.
Please ensure both you and your child are familiar with all the information in this section before committing to the Platinum Performa Team, and let's have an awesome competition season together.
Students must attend classes of the relevant style to the groups in which they are wanting to compete. All students are expected to have exemplary attendance to all classes and must commit to the entire year of group work.
- Students must continue attending their age-appropriate TECHnique class to participate in groups (ages 7 & up)
- Ballet students must attend all their ballet lessons each week to compete in ballet groups
- Your child may be invited to 'dance up' into an older age group based on their skills, abilities, and capacity to meet the requirements of the group choreography.

Our Platinum Performa Teams operate exactly like a competitive team sport, and that means every single member matters. Each group's success depends on 100% participation and commitment from everyone in it. Group work builds term by term on a strong foundation, which means consistent attendance from the beginning of the year isn't just encouraged, it's essential.
It's simply not fair to student's who show up, arrive on time, and give it their all, for others to not match that same level of dedication. Every absence impacts the entire group, from formations and timing to synchronisation and team confidence. We ask that every family considers this seriously before committing to our Platinum Performa teams.
We understand that life happens. However, we expect our Platinum team students to only miss class when they genuinely must. If your child is feeling slightly off or has a minor injury, we strongly encourage them to come in and watch - the brain needs just as much training as the body, and staying connected to the group's progress makes all the difference.
Unless there are unavoidable or exceptional circumstances, such as a critical incident, family matter, or serious illness - consistent absences, lateness, or leaving early will result in a conversation about your child's place in their group. If your child misses three lessons, a meeting will be scheduled to discuss their position.
If you have a holiday or commitment that classes with any performance or Eisteddfod/Competition date, please let us know at the very start of the year so we can plan accordingly.
If your child isn't ready to prioritise their team and their training, our Momentum Performa stream may be a better fit right now, and that's completely ok! There's a place for every student at Performa!
Attendance will be strictly enforced this year.
There is extra time commitment that comes with competition work, but we do try to keep this as minimal as possible for our families. By committing to competitions teams, you must ensure you are available for the following dates.
AUG 02: Group Rehearsals at the studio
SEPT 20: Vortex Group Competition
SEPT 28 - 0CT 04: Group Rehearsals & Mackay Eisteddfod competition
There may be a few other sporadic dates (which cannot be determined at this time) when your child will need to learn routines. However, we strive to do as much as possible during class time. We will always make an effort to provide families with as much notice as possible regarding rehearsal time.
Being involved in Performa Studios Competition Teams requires additional commitment from students and families. There is a cost of $75 per child/per group for participation in 1-3 groups, and $60 per child/per group for participation in 4 or more groups. This fee helps cover various competition related expences, including registration fees, extra rehearsals, staffing hours, studio administration. These charges are invoiced in your parent portal.
Costume costs for competitions are the responsibility of the parent/carer. Approximate costume costs are outlined in our yearly Information Pack, and just like any fees you can make payments on these in instalments up to the due date.
All families will receive an email which will list the groups your child has been placed in for the year. Some groups from each previous year will be repeated and will not require a new costumes unless your child is a new member to this group.
Please note that your child's competition groups will also be their concert items for these styles, so you will not need to purchase a new costume for the concert.
We ask that all families understand the importance of commitment to competition groups once choreography is complete. If a student withdraws from a fully choreographed competition group without a valid reason (such as unavoidable critical incidents, family bereavements, or severe/illness injury with doctor's advice), a $250 re-blocking fee will be charged. This fee helps cover the costs associated with re-patterning and reteaching the group, including teaching and studio administrative time.
As a business, we strive to create a positive and productive environment for all students, and last minute withdrawals can create significant disruptions to the group. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring that we can continue providing the best possible experience for all involved.
As a Platinum Performa Team member, you commit to:
- Owning and wearing the Performa uniform at all competition and performance events, and representing the studio with pride at all times.
- Attending all required rehearsals with only unavoidable absence. If you are unsure whether an absence is excused, please check with your teacher ahead of time.
- Notifying the directors asap if you need to withdraw. Resetting a group takes significant time and cost, for everyone involved.
- Understanding that additional costs apply to competition and performance work. These are typically paid to third parties and are non-refundable.
- Being open to constructive feedback and taking responsibility for being fully prepared at every practice, performance, and competition.
- Supporting your teammates - encouraging a positive attitude motivate each other, and show up for the group every single time.
- Being respectful of every dancer's privacy. If you wish to share photos or videos from events, please seek permission first.
While competition comes with extra time and cost, the skills and memories your child will build through this experience are truly priceless. We'd love for your child to be part of it - but if the commitment isn't feasible right now, please reach out as soon as possible so we can find the right path for your family.
If your child is competing as a soloist, please note that all competition entries and music uploads are the responsibility of parents. We're here to fully support their preparations, but we don't manage entries on your behalf.
Comps Online is a great tool to track events throughout the year, and most competitions now advertise entry details and deadlines on social media - so following competition pages and staying up to date is key with so many new comps popping up. Below are useful links!
Any student who is looking to compete a solo for the first time please speak with your class teacher, and we can get you started on your solo journey!
